Demares Jewelers was established in Vallejo, 50 years ago.
In 1962, Bill Mares decided to open his own business.
His father, Jim, suggested naming the business like the DeBeers Diamond Mines.
Named after his sister Myra Dee and daughter Dee Suzanne, in combination with his family surname, the business was named DeMares Jewelers.
The store first opened its doors in Vallejo's Larwin Plaza Shopping center in 1971.
