Despite the Great Depression, which would take hold within a couple of years and last until the start of World War II, Herman John's humble establishment flourished. Eventually, his son, Robert L. Bechtel, would take over - and then pass it on to his son, current owner Robert T. Bechtel - who joined the business in 1973.
