Before jewelry was mass produced, there were skilled individuals that hand crafted your jewelry. Each piece was meticulously hand made, one at a time. In 1975 when I made my first piece of jewelry and it sold, I was so excited. I still have that same excitement when I finish a new piece. My 45 year journey brought me to Fairhope Alabama--an art loving community that supports and inspires me to create jewelry designs that I always had inside but never brought them to life.
Services
I am a contemporary artist working in a modern organic style; much of my inspiration is drawn from nature.
Combining different materials in new ways allows me a great spectrum of expression.
My reward is to be able to hold a finished piece in my hand and know that yesterday it did not exist.
Materials include traditional gold, silver, and platinum plus copper and unusual Japanese alloys-shakudo and shibuichi-to provide an extended palette and exploit a broad range of patina finishes.
Each piece is hand fabricated.
I spent the first eight years of my life in Japan, a land whose culture is rich in golden objects, pearls and shells from the sea, finely lacquered boxes, and woven brocade fabrics.
Those early images provided lasting influences.
My work is an exploration of textures and shapes, enamel and metal finishes, shiny and dull surfaces, solid and see-through forms.
By placing opposites next to each other, an energy and tension develops.
There is a tactile quality to elements that invite the viewer to respond, to touch, to fondle.
