Founded in 1900, Waller & Company Jewelers is the country's premier African-American family- owned full service retail jewelry business. Since Marcellus Carrington Waller (M.C.), the grandfather of the owner, started the company, the Wallers have provided Richmond area families with excellent watch and jewelry repairs and quality jewelry.
Mr. Waller, a leading entrepreneur and pioneer in Richmond's black business community at the turn of the century, worked for an insurance company, invested in real estate, and owned a grocery store before deciding to concentrate on the watch and jewelry repair business.Mr. Waller opened his watch repair shop in 1900 in Richmond's Carver district. For many years, he operated his business, M. C. Waller & Sons, with three of his sons working beside him as watch, clock and jewelry repairmen.
A business card from 1928 includes the company's motto: "Let Waller make your watch tell the truth." Since these early beginnings, M. C. Waller & Sons, now Waller & Company Jewelers, has operated continuously, led by four generations of Waller family members.
