He recalls his childhood games always included a 'gold treasure'.
But in 1980, along with mining partner Sid Walker, Hatadis hit a small mother-lode with a Keene gold dredge along the North Fork of the Yuba River in eastern Sacramento Valley, California.
That fortuitous strike jumpstarted his learning to make jewelry while he entered into gemological training.
