In 1932, Rowland D. Goodman decided that Newark, N.J. needed a fine jeweler to serve its growing population of city workers. His guiding principle was to treat his customers with the same loyalty, respect and service they deserved. Rowland opened several additional stores in the coming years in towns throughout New Jersey and New York City. As times changed so did the stores.

As the jewelry business evolved Rowland was joined by two generations of Goodmans. Jewelry style and design changed as more and more creativity came to the marketplace. Hand made replaced machine made, 18kt gold and platinum became the standard for high quality products and diamond jewelry evolved from the engagement ring to the right hand ring. For Frederic Goodman Fine Jewelers, the business was one of the classic American dream: a successful family business.

In 2019, the Goodman family decided to leave the retail landscape. With their exit, came the new company- Frederic's Fine Jewelers. Although it is an entirely new entity, it is important to us to honor our Montclair roots.
