Services
I spent many years of my career in digital marketing & ecommerce.
I've worked with major retailers like Gap, Staples, Bed Bath & Beyond and others over the years.
In 2011, I started a small business selling handmade/boutique jewelry online - I sourced from several designers from trade shows, etc.
To save on costs, I learned how to do product photography, some graphic design to build ads and DIY'ed many other things along the way.
The business did well on a small scale but I discontinued it because I was the middleman and my margins were too low.
There is no such thing as the best lens or best camera for jewelry photography.
Why?
Because you can get the same quality jewelry product photos using so many cameras and lenses.
The question should be what is the best camera and lens that you need and can afford.
When photographing jewelry, you need to click from 1-2 feet away from the product.
When shooting from so close, to get the entire product in focus, you have to be able to control the aperture setting.
Any DSLR or mirrorless camera lets you do this.
I've been photographing products for almost 10 years.
Over the years, I've read a lot of blogs and watched videos on YouTube but they didn't give me the full process.
Plus, there was so much content out there that was contradictory.
Some blogs would say you can use a phone, some would use a tent to shoot, some would recommend cheap equipment, some would say you need professional quality lighting, etc.
Product photography is a time consuming process.
If you're looking to learn how to DIY it, here are some courses that will help you get started.
If you're researching what equipment to buy and where to buy from, it can be overwhelming.
There are so many options.
Most links here are Amazon links so you can buy from one place.
As I've outlined in this blog on which camera to buy for product photography, you need a recent mirrorless or DSLR camera.
You don't need an expensive camera because image quality doesn't vary much based on the price of a camera.
Expensive cameras have other features that are not as important for product photography.
This is similar to Alibaba in that they source from Chinese factories.
However, this is a store (not a marketplace like Alibaba is).
So you are dealing with Panda as an online wholesaler who sells products from multiple Chinese factories.
Similar to Alibaba, PandaWhole targets medium to large wholesale orders while Pandahall caters to small to medium volumes (still at very competitive prices).
And again, their listings can be overwhelming but the savings can make it worth your while.
This is a popular US based wholesale supply destination.
